So...what have I been doing lately
Has been a while since my last post here.. Time for a little update! What have I been doing???
I played on a friend's endexam, I rehearsed with my trio, I cooked for some old friends, I wished all my students a nice holiday, I celebrated the summer barbecueing with street orchestra "Kap Nâh", I had more dinners with friends... more barbecue... made some music on the beach, played the North Sea Jazz Festival with the New Generation Big Band, rehearsed with some latinos and worked out in the gym.
Next week I shall be playing on the dutch island Vlieland. Supposed to be very beautiful out threre and the weather forecast is looking good. After that it's probably time for more dinners... I just LOVE eating :D
Summer Holidays
Gradually all teaching jobs are coming to a holiday stop. A good reason for small party's. Whereas the big bands have big barbecue plans, at the music school we drink lemonade and play our favourite songs. Small parties are at least as much fun!!

Global Women on CD
In 2006 the Global Women made their debut as a band, in 2007 they will finally record a cd! Originally put together for a festival, this group of musicians has a nice feeling of solid band communication. The repertoire consists of originals, stylisticly varying between jazz, free impro, samba and funky grooves.
our line-up:
Denise Jannah - vocals
Corry van Binsbergen - guitar
Amina Figarova - piano
Mick Paauwen - bass
Sandra Sahupala - percussion
Ellister van der Molen - trumpet and flugelhorn
On the picture there is also the festival crew that initiated this band concept. Thanks a lot for that reason especially to Ingrid Melman!
New Generation Big Band playing the 'Stadsspelen'
Yesterday we played on 'De Dam' in Amsterdam on the finals of the 'Stadsspelen' : a big event which pursues to be the 'Olympic Games' of Amsterdam.
There were also some guest artists, like Kasba, Mick Harren and Ellen ten Damme..
I shall try to get a hand on the tv registration as soon as it's there and share it with you.
Klaas Balijon plays his final exam
Drummer Klaas Balijon is graduating from the conservatory in Amsterdam and he will therefore be performing with a very nice big band.
Alice in Dixieland in Rimini, a short story...
So Alice in Dixieland travels to the land of the good food. Everything nice 'n' easy you would say...
BUT there is always things that can go wrong: our suitcases were sent to London instead of Milano.
On a nice venue like this one it would be rather inpolite to play the concert dressed in our sweaty travelling clothes..
But the soundcheck needs to be done in time....
So the girls go speedshopping with the festival organization. Two men in their eighties accompanying six young women.. thery were very happy!
We started off trying on some stuff in a shop for handmade theater clothing
but obviously this was not what we were looking for. Very nice and helpful lady by the way!
www.ladycamelot.itFortunately this story has a happy ending: we found some nice clothes, the organization agreed to pay for it and the concert was great!
If I would have had pictures of that, I would have posted those... and thanks to Sanna for supplying these pictures!
